Jamaica - Swimming with crocodiles

I never got around to posting more about our Jamaica trip - so I figured that as I have time throughout the coming months that I would do periodic Jamaican themed post.

While we were in Jamaica Scott and I visited the black river, home of the Jamaican crocodile. We actually ended up having the entire tour to ourselves and our tour guide was amazing. We were worried that we wouldn't get to see a crocodile, but we got lucky an saw about 6.
We were lucky, we saw our first crocodile within 3 minutes of going down the river.
The Black River is so named because of the peat at the bottom. The water is actually crystal clear, but reflects the peat.

These trees were pretty amazing - their branches drop these "roots" - they just barely reach the water and are hollow. They use them to suck up the water and get nutrients.
So after seeing several crocodiles we did what any normal person would do - we went swimming.

This is Scott and our tour guide - can you tell which is which.... my husband is the one that sun burns really really easily...

The guides are amazing at spotting crocodiles - they spotted this guy from a ways off...Scott had to get him in the view finder of the camera to show me where he was before I could ever spot him.

It was a good part of the trip - lots of fun and good stories...just so you know we made the guide jump in first and we didn't see any crocodiles while we were actually in the water.
