Baby Clothes

So my mom isn't the only one that has been buying baby clothes.... Scott and I found these at Costco for really cheap and they are adorable so I/we (probably more me) just had to get them. We have no idea if its a boy or a girl yet (and won't for months) so we tried to go with gender neutral - although Scott assures me that some of these are just boys clothes.
I picked on that says "I'm just bananas over mommy" and Scott got one that says "Daddy's team - future MVP"
These little footie ones were so cute - notice that the puppy one has puppy feet and the lion one has lion feet. The alligator one however is especially adorable on the bottom of the feet it says "later" and "gator" so that you can read them as they are crawling away. When we brought these home Jude (our younger cat) pulled one of the lion footies off the edge of the table where they were sitting and nuzzled it for 2-3 minutes...it makes me wonder if hes just that friendly or if Kiko was picking on him and he was lonely.... really cute though.

These two were just adorable - I had to get them...although Scott was against the white colored one...because it was white...apparently white and babies aren't supposed to mix, but my kids are going to be so well behaved that it won't matter what color they are wearing (yeah right)
One says "A giggle makes me wiggle" and the other says "I love long hugs"

Weeks 5 - 8

Scott and I decided that we should be taking weekly belly pictures. We wanted to use the same background to aid in comparison - and then I had the wonderful thought to use the book case...by the end of next October about half of the books should disappear...lol

These are the pictures from weeks 5 through 8 - as you can tell there isn't much happening yet but soon there will be!

St. Patricks Day

Scott and I went out to the bars last night (no worries I had an orange soda...which I think actually had something to do with my upset stomach....) with several of my law school friends. It took them a few minutes but they finally caught on that I wasn't drinking. Kevin decided that we should have a toast and make an announcement to the whole table - so we did and it was good fun, everyone was really happy for us. Kevin kept getting happier for us the whole night - Baby Swain was the subject/participant of several more toast....and yes I do mean participant - think Kevin's glass and my tummy...lol. It was a good night for all - always interesting being the sober one at the bar. :)

Baby's first presents

My mom is excited to be a grandma - its true. We were looking through baby stuff at Walmart and mom decided that she needed to be the first one to buy the baby a present (which turned into 3). Mom and I had seen this crib toy when we were looking for baby shower gifts several years ago, and had decided that I needed one when the time came. It has motion, lights, and music that are supposed to sooth the baby to sleep and/or entertain it. It has a cute little monkey on it which will go perfect with the crib bedding I have already picked out (as you can see I've been planning this for a while :). Then we found the little touch and feel book which matches the crib toy - so we decided that the baby would need that too. So we got out of Walmart with just the two things....but then we went to JC Pennies....and they had such cute baby clothes that we had to get one...this one have frogs, turtles, ducks, and bugs on it. But the best part is the little frog feeties :)

So grandma got the baby its first toy, first book, and first outfit...way to go grandma!

How to tell the family...

My sweet parents were nice enough to buy me a plane ticket home for spring break. It was lucky that we found out that we were going to have a baby before I went home. So the big question was how to tell. We decided to get Scott's mom Kathy to meet us at a restaurant for dinner and tell everybody at the same time.

It was a trick to get Kathy there because her oldest daughter was in the hospital and we couldn't tell her why it was so important for her to come to dinner. So we enlisted the help of Aunt Nancy (Kathy's sister). We told her the exciting news and she promised to get Kathy to dinner.

Scott and I bought some baby bibs before I left DC and I wrapped them up like presents. When we got to the restaurant I called Scott on the phone and gave it to his mom so she could say hi. I then gave out the presents to everyone and told them that Scott wanted me to get a picture of everyone unwrapping them since he couldn't be there. As they started to unwrap I said "Okay now everybody say Sarah's pregnant" (instead of cheese...get it).

Our new camera has a mode called continuous shot so I was able to get all of the reactions as people opened their presents. Below are just a few.

I think that my little brother Kyle had it figured before he ever started to unwrap his present. He had actually asked me the night before if I was pregnant...and I had to avoid the question.

You can tell that mom figured it out here!

Kathy took a little while longer since she was also talking on the phone, I don't think she heard me say the part about being pregnant. Kyle doesn't look too excited in the picture above but I know he took his bib (it says "my uncle loves me" with an alligator and a frog on it) back to K-State and has it hanging in his room...I think hes pretty excited.

My mom of course was thrilled. My family knew that we were trying but I had been lying to her the whole week about it not happening yet...didn't want to spoil the surprise.

Kathy on the other hand had no idea....Scott decided not to tell his family that we were trying. However, I think that she was really happy with the news. She had no idea that her sister was in on the plot to get her to dinner. Aunt Nancy must be good at keeping secrets.

It's Official

On Sunday March 1st Scott and I got the most exciting news! We are going to have a baby! The due date should be about November 3rd but I'm hoping that it comes early so that we can have Halloween birthday parties.

I wanted to blog about it sooner but I had to wait until we had a chance to tell our parents (who we know read the blog).

When we took the test the positive line showed up before the control line did - there was no waiting around and it certainly didn't take 2 minutes like the box told us it might.
