Deakin is 6 months

Deakin turned 6 months old yesterday. In some ways I can't believe that it has been that long, and in other ways I can't believe that it hasn't been longer. Deakin has become a drool factory - we assume that he will be getting teeth soon. He can sit up on his own pretty well (leaning forward) and can roll really well from his back to his tummy. He still refuses to roll from his tummy to his back and often times he ends up looking like a skydiver with his hands and feet all off of the floor. I am torn as to whether I want him to start crawling soon - it will be nice when he is more independent, but we haven't baby proofed the house yet, so I don't know if I am really ready for him to be mobile.

Potential new blog

I'm thinking about starting a new blog, in which I would review just about anything having to do with babies - products, websites, books, etc. (and it would probably switch to kids as Deakin and siblings get older). Part of it would be for my own benefit - I've done so much research into things that I would like to write it down before I forget it all. However, I would also like to do it for the benefit of other people, they can learn from the mistakes I've made in purchases and also know the things I've found to be really worth the money and/or time.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this. Would it be worth my time, does anyone think that it would be useful to them? Any thoughts on how I would expand the access to the blog beyond the five or so people that follow my family blog (who are more concerned with what is happening in our lives v. what I think about baby stuff)?

Any thoughts, questions, or comments would be appreciated.

Deakin has learned kisses

It was so cute, yesterday I leaned over an gave Deakin a kiss and then he leaned towards me with his mouth wide open like he wanted to suck on my chin...but then he did it over and over - I think that he was trying to give kisses. I'm more sure of it now because almost every time I kiss him he does it. Kisses from my baby - I love it!

First Park Trip

This is actually from a while back (the beginning of March I think) but I didn't get around to putting up this picture then, and I love it so I thought I would do it now. This was Deakin's first trip to the park. We are lucky enough to have a cute little park about 3 blocks from our house. There are also several other larger parks in the neighborhood. We will have to go play at them too when Deakin gets a bit bigger. :)

Sitting up - kinda

Deakin still refuses to roll over (3 times ever) but he will sit up (although leaning very far forward) for a while before toppling over. He hates laying on his tummy for very long at a time - I wonder if he will just skip rolling and crawling and go straight to pulling up and walking. Scott's mom said that Scott skipped crawling - maybe it is in his genes.

Cherry Blossom Festival

We decided to brave the massive crowds of tourist and take Deakin to get his picture with the Cherry Blossoms.

I love this face - it is one of his new expressions and it is adorable.

Deakin's First Easter

Here are a couple of photos that Scott and I took Easter morning. We had to be quick because Deakin was in a throw-uppy type of mood and I knew that the outfit wouldn't last long.

Uncle Mimi

Meridith was the best man at our wedding - so we thought that it was only fitting that she should be Deakin's uncle. (might be confusing after she gets married and its uncle Mimi and uncle Paul...oh well we will cross that bridge when we come to it)

Here she is wearing the head to Deakin's Halloween costume...I think that it might still be a bit to big for him. It said that it was 0-6 months size...

Meridith also made it down to the Cherry Blossom Festival with us. Amazing how many tourist can fit along the river bank in between the trees.
We even colored Easter eggs while she was down. I have to admit that she is a bit more creative then we are - here is her rocketship.

Scott's Arm

I'm sure by now that everyone has heard that Scott is unable to fly - or leap semi-short fences. (although in his defense I think that the fence just sucks and needs to be replaced) The break in his arm was pretty terrible, by the time that they got him to the emergency room his left arm was 3 inches shorter then his right. It was a terrible hospital experience, so we need to be looking into a different hospital out here to be our primary care facility. Scott's arm left us in a bit of a bind. He is no longer able to care for Deakin and I don't have time to be full-time caretaker and law student. (So how do I have time to blog you might ask? I just got the baby to go to sleep and I have a little time before I have to go pick Scott up from the metro - not really enough time to dive into a paper)

We are very lucky to have helpful family and friends. Scott's mom flew out the day he broke his arm and so she and I traded off baby duty and hospital time. Scott's bestman Meridith (Uncle Mimi to Deakin) came down for a week to watch the kiddo while I caught up on school work and went to class. And several of my fellow law school classmates took turns watching Deakin at school so that I could go to my lectures. Deakin did get to come to one of my classes - he is getting well educated in the relation between law and economics! I want to thank everyone that helped us (although most of them don't read this so I will be thanking them on Facebook as well

My mom is flying out tomorrow and staying with us until graduations are over. My poor dad is giving her up for 6 weeks - hopefully he will be able to make it out to visit at least once before graduations to help split up his solitude (not that he doesn't have a vast network of family at home to keep him company).

So anyways, thanks to everyone to has helped out and to everyone that has been thinking about us. Here are a couple of pictures. There is an identical incision on the other side of his arm as well, because he broke both bones in his forearm they had to go in and place plates and screws. If I can get the x-rays to scan I will post those later as well.
