Random updates

So the last month has been very expensive. We decided to buy a new couch, and we should get it on Thursday - we are very excited....the old futon has seen better days and it is getting very uncomfortable to sit on. We has also finally decided to get a wii and a wii fit - I'm really excited about it. All of the parts have come except for the wii itself - its a bit depressing to have the new fit here but not be able ot do anything with it..oh well. And on this past Thursday I was sitting in a meeting bored out of my mind and browsing the internet when I thought to look for tickets to fly to LA. I found $219 round trip non-stop flights for president's day weekend. So Scott and I are flying to LA on the 12th and coming back on the 17th. We are only missing 3 classes between the 2 of us - it is soooo exciting. Scott has been wanting to fly out to see his sister there for a long time. We also heard that her apperance on the TV show she works on is airing next week. Its going to be amazing to know someone famous :)

Inauguration Fun

Scott's best man Meredith and her boyfriend Paul came all the way to DC to visit us - okay so maybe they came out of the inauguration and we were just a good place to stay ...but still it was good seeing them :)

We also had Paul's brother with us for the concert on Sunday afternoon. Scott managed to get all 5 of us in the same picture - I was amazed he could do it, but I never doubted him...lol
Even though we went out kinda late (2 hours early) we got a pretty good view.

As you can see there were LOTS of people behind us - people even got up on the port-a-potties to get a better view. At times I was afraid that they would knock them over and we would all drowned in the flood - its not like we had anywhere to go if it did happen.

It was nice that they had jumbotrons out there so that we could see what was going on - we could see the people on the steps but they were about the size of ants.

After spending about 5 hours out in the cold we rewarded ourselfs with Ben's Chili Bowl - the best chili dog you will ever find. Although we had to wait a little over an hour, out in the cold, to get them.
I bet that they were really bad for us - but they sure did taste good.

Our friends went into town early because they had tickets. Scott and I slept in becuase we knew we would be able to really see anything at the Inauguration anyways. When we first got into the metro we thought that it was going to be easier then we thought to get into town...but...then there were train malfunctions and it ended up looking like this before we got on a train.
The trains coming into the station were already crowded, only 2-3 people could get in at each set of doors (if any could). We managed to get on about the 4th train that came through, we just barely fit.

The Mall was packed by the time we got there (it actually would have been faster to walk then to take the train, but we didn't know that when we started out in the morning and it was cold). It was only 14 degrees that morning.

Scott and I still managed to get a spot where we could see the capital in the background and a jumbotron so that we could see what was going on.

We stood at the base of the Washington monument - here is the massive crowd of people leaving.

We decided to walk home and on our way we saw this - a blown up statue of George Bush.

As it turns out they had ropes attached to it and would periodically pull it down - just like the Iraq citizens did with the statute of Saddam....it is amazing their similarities.

But enough political stuff - it was cold, but I'm glad that we were there for this historical moment.

My Double Mexican Food Birthday

My quarter of a century birthday fell on the day that Scott and I had to get in the car and drive back to DC. But before we left KS we had to have the good Mexican food one last time (DC mexican food sucks for the most part). Scott's mom drove over from Winfield to join us at El Pueblitos in Independance, and the food was awesome....I love white queso!

Scott is an amazing husband. He had been secretly getting some of my closest law school buddies together to go out for dinner for my birthday when we got back to DC. There was a bounding on the door on Sunday night and I had no idea what was going on...I should have figured out that something was up because Scott just yelled "come on in." We decided to check out a Mexican food restaurant that we hadn't tried before. The food was good, but not as good as back home. (Luckily I'm going back to KS for a few days in March so I can get my fill of good Mexican food again!)

I sure am lucky to have him, he takes good care of me!

Jamaican Sunsets

We have so many Jamaican pictures that I couldn't figure out a good way to do a summary of the trip in order - so instead I am going to just pick out random elements of the trip and post about them. What a better way to start then sunsets - they are gorgeous. We got to our hotel just in time to watch the sunset.

The Blog site loaded the pictures in reverse order and I uploaded pictures several times - so i'm not really sure which pictures go with which day of our trip but they are all so pretty I guess it doesn't matter.

Here Scott is posing in a street fighter position - for those who don't know that was a video game a long time ago - I never really knew how to play I just hit the buttons randomly on my controller and sometimes I would get really lucky and my character would do awesome moves that no one really knew how to do on purpose

This was our last sunset, we were on the plane going home. We weren't supposed to see it but our plane was delayed over an hour - which made catching our connecting flight much harder...but we made it...had to run (in crappy running shoes) but we made it. So in all, I guess it was worth it for the sunset.
